UUID Generator and GUID Generator

Create random, time-based or repeatable UUIDs locally. Choose a version, format a batch and inspect an existing identifier.

Generate UUIDs

v1, v6 and v7 expose an encoded time. v1/v6 here use random node data, not your hardware address. UUIDs are identifiers, not passwords or access tokens.

Ctrl/Cmd+Enter runs the focused section. Escape cancels work. Nothing generates or copies automatically.

Result

Copy and download use the complete current output.

Formatting and export options

Default is one line feed. Used only for plain text. Format changes reuse the same identifiers.

Default print excludes your identifiers, names, namespace and decoded fields.

Ready. Choose Generate or Inspect.

Validate, inspect and convert a UUID

Paste one complete UUID, GUID, URN, Base64 or encoded-brace value. Formatting validity does not prove uniqueness, ownership or authenticity.

No current inspection.

UUID and GUID reference

A UUID is a 128-bit identifier; GUID is common Microsoft terminology. Text conventions do not change its network-order bytes. Nil and Max are special values, not fresh unique identifiers.

Choose a version for your workflow
VersionSourceImportant limit
v4122 random bitsNo timestamp; collisions remain possible.
v7Unix milliseconds and sequence/random dataEncoded time is visible. Ordering is not coordinated across clients.
v3 / v5Namespace and exact name, MD5 / SHA-1Repeatable and predictable; compatibility hashing, not encryption.
v1 / v6Gregorian timestamp, clock sequence and random nodeLegacy compatibility; timestamp precision is not physical clock accuracy.
v2 / v8DCE / application-specificRecognized during inspection; generation and custom payload decoding are not provided.

Formats and exact exports

D, N, B, P and X are common GUID text formats. URN adds urn:uuid:. Base64 uses the 16 network-order bytes; Base64URL omits padding. URL encoding wraps the braced UUID with percent escapes. TXT adds no BOM or trailing separator; JSON, CSV and code lists use their displayed syntax. SQL output is a VALUES fragment for review, never executed here.

Generation in your application

const id = crypto.randomUUID(); // JavaScript v4
import uuid
id = uuid.uuid4()  # Python v4

For application workloads, use a secure runtime generator and enforce uniqueness where duplicates would cause problems. This page keeps one batch in memory, supports up to 10,000 IDs and renders 100 rows per page. It stores no tool history or payload links. Page-visit analytics follow the existing site policy.

Standards: RFC 9562 and RFC 4648. Generation uses the MIT-licensed uuid package.
