Work out how much to feed a puppy from age, current weight and the food label’s calories. This puppy food calculator shows daily calories, grams and measured portions per meal for healthy, fully weaned puppies that are still growing. It is a starting estimate to review with your vet.

Dog

Fully weaned and still growing. Individual skeletal maturity matters, especially for large/giant breeds.

Use the label’s metabolisable energy. Multiply kcal per 100 g by 10. This tool does not formulate a diet.

What this means

F-PETS-GROW-001/002: daily calories=70×kg^0.75×growth factor. The AAHA example factors are 3 before 4 months and 2 from 4 months while growing. Age alone cannot establish whether your dog is still growing.

F-PETS-GROW-003: remove the entered treat share, then grams/day=food calories×1000÷label kcal/kg. Divide the unrounded amount by your chosen meals. Food energy and grams are not interchangeable; there is no assumed cup size.

Choose a complete diet suitable for growth and expected adult size. A calorie estimate cannot verify calcium balance, assess a raw recipe or replace a vet plan. The puppy feeding chart below is a reference for its stated food energy, not a prescription.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I feed my puppy?

Estimate growth calories from current weight and age, then use the complete food’s label to convert calories into grams. Reassess portions with body condition and growth; the result is a starting estimate.

Why does the puppy food calculator change at 4 months?

AAHA’s example growth factors change from 3 RER before 4 months to 2 RER from 4 months. Real needs vary and do not change abruptly on a birthday; adjust with veterinary guidance.

Can I use a puppy feeding chart for every food?

No. Calorie density differs between foods. The reference chart states 4000 kcal/kg and zero treats; use your actual label in the calculator for portions.

Can I use this for a newborn or an adult dog?

No. It is for healthy fully weaned puppies still growing. Newborns, pregnant or ill dogs and dogs at skeletal maturity need a different plan.
