Kitten feeding chart and schedule calculator
237.2 kcal per daySee full resultUse a kitten feeding chart by age, then calculate food portions for a healthy, fully weaned kitten. Newborn kitten feeding needs a different plan: the chart explains the distinction, and this tool never turns a newborn’s weight into an automatic milk dose.
237.2 kcal per day
Fully weaned kitten energy estimate; portions depend on your complete food’s label.

What this means
For fully weaned kittens at least 8 weeks old, F-PETS-GROW-001/002 estimates daily energy=70×kg^0.75×2.5. F-PETS-GROW-003 removes the entered treat share and divides by label kcal/kg to find grams; per-meal amounts use the unrounded daily calculation.
Newborns and partly weaned kittens need age-specific milk nutrition, preparation and monitoring. Do not apply the fully-weaned energy model to them, substitute cow’s milk or assume a universal mL per feed. Weaning is gradual and often completes around 8–10 weeks.
The kitten feeding schedule describes stages, not a deadline to stop nursing. After weaning, use your chosen measured-meal count and review frequency and portions as the kitten grows.
Only your browser processes inputs. Copied scenarios use a URL fragment; no age, weight or food label is sent to a server.
Kitten feeding chart by age
Care-stage reference. Newborn milk amounts are deliberately not calculated; stages overlap during gradual weaning.
| Age/stage | Nutrition | Schedule and next step |
|---|---|---|
| Birth to 6 days | Mother’s milk, or a vet-selected kitten milk replacer for orphans | VCA: 2–4 hour feeds for orphans; get an individual plan. No mL dose calculated. |
| 1 to 4 weeks | Milk-based nutrition; monitor growth daily | VCA: 4–6 hour feeds after the first week until weaning; confirm with your vet. |
| About 4 to 8–10 weeks | Gradual transition to complete kitten food | Still nursing or partly weaned: use your vet’s transition plan. |
| Fully weaned, 8 to 52 weeks | Complete kitten growth diet | Use weight, label calories and measured meals; reassess growth and body condition. |
When to see a vet
- An orphaned newborn needs a vet or experienced rescue feeding plan promptly. A cold, weak, non-feeding or poorly growing kitten needs urgent assessment; do not force-feed.
- Contact your vet for vomiting, diarrhoea, breathing changes, refusal to eat, weight loss or unexpected thirst. Do not use a chart to delay care.

Frequently asked questions
How does this kitten feeding chart work by age?
It separates milk feeding, gradual weaning and fully-weaned growth. Numeric food portions appear only at 8 weeks or later and after explicit fully-weaned confirmation.
How often does a newborn kitten feed?
For orphaned kittens, VCA describes 2–4 hour feeding intervals in the first week and 4–6 hours after that until weaning. A vet or experienced rescue must set the individual plan, including formula and amount; this tool gives no newborn milk dose.
Can I calculate kitten milk in mL from this page?
No. Neonatal age, health, formula concentration and feeding technique matter. Follow an individual veterinary plan and the appropriate milk-replacer instructions.
How much food should a fully-weaned kitten eat?
The calculator estimates growth calories from current weight, then uses your food label to calculate grams. Monitor growth and body condition, and adjust with your vet.
Do kitten treats count?
Yes. ASPCA advises treats be no more than 5% of a kitten’s daily intake. This calculator subtracts the entered share before finding complete-food portions.
