Morse Code Translator
Translate text and Morse code, listen at your own speed, and explore every signal. Your message stays in this browser unless you explicitly copy, download or share it.

Translate your message
This puzzle hides a plaintext message. Reveal shows its text; Play can sound it. The link is not encrypted.
Standard Morse: one space between letters, / between words. Auto may interpret a solitary dot or dash as Morse; choose a direction when ambiguous.
Partial translation contains [?] placeholders. Audio is disabled. Copy and text exports include the visible partial result.
Ready. Enter a message or choose a public sample.
Custom notation
Four distinct, prefix-free tokens of 1–8 printable ASCII characters. No whitespace or < > # ?. Custom input matches tokens exactly.
Open a local text file and print
Invalid files leave your message unchanged. A leading UTF-8 BOM is removed with a notice. No upload occurs. CSV text cells receive an apostrophe when needed to prevent spreadsheet formulas; TXT keeps the exact translation.
Listen to the signals
Stopped. Playback starts only when you ask.
Audio, speed and signal settings
Listen at a comfortable volume. WAV uses the same 44,100 Hz signed 16-bit PCM source as playback. Mute and repeats affect live playback only; WAV contains one pass at the chosen volume. One rendered pass is capped at 60 seconds, live repeated playback at 180 seconds.
Optional lamp: at most 7 character WPM and three flashes per second, slower than fast audio; disabled with reduced motion. Vibration is best effort, limited to 30 seconds / 1,000 entries. No full-screen flashing.
Character breakdown and timing timeline
Up to 200 rows per page. Choose an item to hear it without neighbouring letter gaps. Spoken dot patterns use di, dit and dah; these are explanatory, not input tokens.
| Item | Character | Code | Spoken | Seconds | Replay |

Manual keyer
This separate buffer stays here until you choose Use in translator. Hold the straight key with your pointer, or focus it and hold Space. Adaptive timing is an approximate learning aid, not a guaranteed decoder.
Listening practice
Play each silent question, enter one letter or digit, then submit or skip. No saved progress.
Optional share link or puzzle
Links disclose source and settings in plaintext, not encrypted, including puzzle answers. Create one only when you intend to disclose it.
Maximum 1,000 source units and bounded link size. No server, shortener or social posting. The fragment is removed from the address bar after this page reads it. A puzzle is concealment, not access control.
International Morse reference chart
ITU M.1677-1 defines these factual mappings. É is supported; × encodes like X. Lowercase maps explicitly to uppercase. Other accents, non-Latin text and smart punctuation are diagnosed. No silent accent stripping.

Extensions ! & ; _ $ are non-ITU. Prosigns use angle brackets and continuous signals: CT aliases KA, VA aliases SK, VE aliases SN. Ordinary characters win decode collisions: + over AR, = over BT, extended & over AS. Case and aliases cannot be recovered.
Timing, examples and limitations
Public examples: SOS → ... --- ...; HELLO WORLD → .... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -..; a continuous <SOS> → ...---.... This is a learning tool, not a rescue or calibrated radio signaling system.
At character speed c, one dot and the gap inside a character are 1.2 ÷ c seconds; a dash is three dots. At effective speed s, the spacing unit is (60 ÷ s − 31 × dot) ÷ 19. Letter gaps are three spacing units and word gaps seven, without adding an extra letter gap at word boundaries. PARIS plus its final word gap is 60 ÷ s seconds. Exports omit initial and final silence.
Source positions count raw UTF-16 units, including CRLF. Standard input accepts dot/dash glyph variants; underscores act as dashes in Morse input, whereas a text underscore is an optional extended character. Diacritic decomposition, missing letter boundaries and unknown prosigns are not guessed. Clean up removes exactly the diagnosed spans; Undo restores the source.
Local conversion, synthesis and files need no remote service after this page’s assets load; first-load offline use is not promised. Site analytics counts visits, not messages. Text, audio and shared fragments remain readable by extensions or a compromised browser. No progress, drafts or settings are retained by this tool.

Morse translator questions
How do I separate Morse letters and words?
Use one space between letters, a slash between words. Two spaces or a newline also separate words. Continuous ...---... is a prosign; ... --- ... spells SOS.
What does Farnsworth speed change?
It lengthens letter and word gaps while preserving character speed. Effective speed cannot exceed character speed; PARIS is the 50-unit reference word.
Is my message saved or uploaded?
No drafts or progress are stored. Copy, downloads and optional plaintext links explicitly disclose your message. Puzzle links are not encrypted.
Can this decode recordings or an unspaced stream?
No recording, microphone or image recognition, or guessing missing letter boundaries. Unsupported text is diagnosed.
